Abstract of Information Available
[top] Human remains representing, at least, one individual has been identified from Grant Mound (8DU14), Duval County, Florida. The 61 associated funerary objects are pottery sherds. Grant Mound/Grant Midden (8DU14) was excavated by William H. Sears of the Florida Museum of Natural History in 1959 from Duval County, Florida. The Ancestor and pottery fragments are from the midden under the mound and date from early in the St. Johns II period (A.D. 750-1500) (based on pottery typology). The FLMNH undertook building wide fumigation with Vikane (sulfuryl fluoride) several times since this collection has entered the museum.
