AGENCY:
U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Department of Homeland Security.
ACTION:
30-Day notice and request for comments; extension of an existing collection of information.
SUMMARY:
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) of the Department of Homeland Security will be submitting the following information collection request to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review and approval in accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act: Application for Waiver of Passport and/or Visa (Form I-193). This is a proposed extension of an information collection that was previously approved. CBP is proposing that this information collection be extended with no change to the burden hours or to the information collected. This document is published to obtain comments from the public and affected agencies.

Written comments should be received on or before September 17, 2014 to be assured of consideration.

Abstract: The data collected on DHS Form I-193, Application for Waiver of Passport and/or Visa, is used by CBP to determine an applicant's identity, alienage, claim to legal status in the United States, and eligibility to enter the United States under 8 CFR 211.1(b)(3) and 212.1(g). This form is a tool used by CBP for aliens requesting to enter the country for a medical or humanitarian emergency, but wishing for CBP to waive the documentary requirements to present a valid passport or visa due to an expired passport, or a lost, stolen, or forgotten passport or permanent resident card, or if there is insufficient time for the alien to obtain a nonimmigrant visa or a passport. The waiver of the documentary requirements and the information collected on DHS Form I-193 is authorized by Section 212(a)(7) of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
